TestingTime Review: Get paid to test website usability (2020)

Founded in 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland, TestingTime recruits test users and other study participants. The name TestingTime is derived from tea time – the light meal the British eat in the afternoon. This is, of course, meant as a metaphor: we take the weight of recruiting off your shoulders so that the task of conducting research becomes lighter and thus more regular. Our hope is that this way, our customers will help us to someday achieve our corporate vision: a world full of happy users.

Get Your Hustle Team members have been testers for TestingTime since 2018 and have testing websites and products from around the world with global companies from Trivago to UBS banks. These usability tests are done through video conferencing and you must have the ability to connect with various methods from Skype to Zoom.

How much do you get paid?

Simple you get paid € 50 per hour and most sessions are 60-90 minutes. And you get paid in about 10 days from completing the test/meeting.

So what happens once you sign up?

Fair warning the registration process is pretty thorough. But it only takes about 3 minutes or so to finish it. They ask a lot of questions upfront because they have tons of categories and stipulations their clients have for the type of users they are looking to test. It’s critical that you enter accurate information. Testers that have falsified their information are quickly found out and banned.

Our personal experiences:

There are fewer testing opportunities with TestingTime compared to other usability sites. However, they are very rewarding. If you are in the USA the conversion from USD and Euro has been to our benefit. Depending on your personal criteria you may get more or fewer opportunities. One GYH Team member averaged a test a week while another would get a test less than once a month. So it depends on what type of testers their clients need. In addition, if you don’t qualify for a test, but refer to someone that does, you will get a referral bonus, these amounts vary.

How do I get paid?

Once you have successfully completed your first test, you will be asked to provide your preferred payment method. From then on, the money will always be transferred to your PayPay or bank account of choice within 10 business days.

Now that you know how Testingtime works, let’s cover the pros and cons:

Pro

  • You can work from anywhere
  • Flexible, work when you want to
  • Minimum  € 50 per test
  • You get to be the first to know about a lot of cool things happening on the web (There are NDAs)
  • Paid promptly in 10 days
  • Referral bonus

Con

  • Variable number of tests available
  • Takes a while to get responses back from support

Conclusion:

If you want to make some side money for bills or maybe to treat yourself, Testingtime is a great side gig. This is not for someone who is looking for a part-time job or something that is consistent in pay.

The Skinny:

The Hustle Team is affiliated with Testingtime in that we get a referral bonus if you sign up and complete a test.
